Alan Budikusuma

 Indonesian Badminton Player

Edition : Alan Budikusuma

Alexander Alan Budikusuma Wiratama or more popularly known as Alan Budikusuma is one of Indonesia's professional badminton players. This man is also the husband of Susi Susanti, who is also a legendary Indonesian badminton player. Alan's interest in the world of badminton began at the age of 7 a year later, Alan started joining the Rajawali badminton club, in Surabaya. Alan's sincerity in studying badminton was proven by his decision to leave his hometown at the age of 15 and join a club that also produces many outstanding badminton athletes, it is called PB Djarum. From the discipline and training that Alan underwent at the national training camp (Pelatnas), his career in the world of badminton then reached its peak in 1992.

At the Olympics which were held in Barcelona. Alan's girlfriend who later became his wife, Susi Susanti, also managed to win gold. They got the nickname "Olympic Brides". Alan's other achievements are no less impressive. He won the Dutch Open (1989), won the Thailand Open, in 1989 and 1991, the China Open (1991), the German Open (1992), the World Cup (1993), and the Malaysia Open (1995).

Even though he always looked brilliant, Alan also experienced several defeats or shortfall. He also ever feeling down, when against Ardy B. Winata at the 1991 All England event. So, Alan's success was not easy. He had to spend time, energy, and leave his family to achieve his dream. He wants to become a famous badminton player like the legend Rudy Hartono. Not surprisingly, he became one of the legend.

After the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Alan decided to retire from badminton. However, he did not immediately off from badminton. He still criticizes the development of badminton in this country. He said many athletes were born with natural talent. Meanwhile, players from abroad do not have that kind of natural talent. For Alan, one of the factors in Indonesia's failure to win championships in various competitions was the regeneration process. He hopes that the development of badminton athletes in Indonesia will receive financial support from the government so that young Indonesian athletes have the opportunity to compete in every world event. Since mid-2002, Alan and Susi founded a company that produces rackets under their own brand, it is called Astec (Alan-Susi Technology).
